I was born in Overtoun Maternity Home in Dumbarton,Scotland on 24th December 1951.My first home was 13,Clyde Street. My mum was May Mcloughlin (nee Gow) and my dad Owen Mcloughlin,my older sister Marie Therese Mcloughlin is 3 years older than me.We lived in Carrick Terrace ,number 6e before moving to 30,Caledonia Terrace when I was 8 years old.I attended West Bridgend Primary and Saint Patrick's High shools.I left shool at 16 and became an apprentice painter and decorator with family firm H waddell and Son in Helensburgh, then with Dumbarton Town Council as a Signwriter and painter.I lived in Dumbarton until 1972 when I left home and moved to Hull,England.I studied English for a degree at the Open University and passed with honours. I became an English teacher with the Brittish Council,an organisation which provides an English education to underprivelidged children.
In May 2005 I came to Spain as an English teacher and worked in Madrid before moving to Caravaca de la Cruz,a beautiful small city in the south of Spain.I met mybeautiful, Spanish wife and we married in Bali,Indonesia in 2013.I opened my own Language School in 2009 where I now work as an English Teacher.
I took up writing along with my hobbies of painting, photography, walking in the beautiful surrounding mountains of Southern Spain,as a hobby and decided to write my memoirs about my childhood in Dumbarton,Scotland in 2012.Three years, many hours and strong Spanish coffee later my memoirs "A Dumbarton Childhood" was born.
My next project is to chronicle the many stories of my life here in Spain and hopefuly will be published sometime in 2016.
